Our Top Five Dorset Beaches

08/05/2026

We think Greenwood Grange is in Dorset’s Best Location. Just minutes away are so many stunning beaches along the Jurassic Coast.

Did you know that the Jurassic Coast is the UK’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage site?

Whether its fossils, swimming or watersports you’re after, there is truly a beach for everyone.

#1 RINGSTEAD BAY

Ringstead Bay is one of Dorset's best-kept secrets! This quiet, pebbly National Trust beach is tucked along the Jurassic Coast, just 20 minutes from Greenwood Grange. Dogs are welcome all year round, the swimming is brilliant and the coastal walks are simply stunning. Pack a picnic — you won't want to leave!

#2 WEYMOUTH BEACH

Weymouth Beach has something for everyone. The golden sands are perfect for families with safe, shallow waters and lifeguards on patrol. Venture further along the bay and the beach becomes quieter pebbles with deeper water — ideal for a proper swim. Around 20 minutes from Greenwood Grange, it's a must-visit.

#3 CASTLE COVE, WEYMOUTH

Castle Cove is a local’s secret that I get told off for sharing... Tucked away from the busy spots, this small shingle cove is one of my favourites and is perfect for a peaceful swim. The calm, sheltered waters make it brilliant for paddleboards and kayaks too. It's just a short drive from Weymouth town centre and there are toilets and a cafe within easy reach at Castle Gardens.

#4 LULWORTH COVE

Lulworth Cove is simply breathtaking. This iconic UNESCO World Heritage site sits along the Jurassic Coast, just 25 minutes from Greenwood Grange. The crystal-clear waters are wonderful for swimming and the dramatic cliffs make for an unforgettable backdrop. Be sure to get there early in the day as it can get busy later on. Lots of great spots for lunch and ice cream there too!

#5 WEST BAY, BRIDPORT

West Bay is the perfect blend of imposing cliffs and a quaint little harbour. Made famous by the TV show Broadchurch, those iconic golden cliffs are even more jaw-dropping in real life. The shingle beach and working harbour have real charm, and the fish and chips are not to be missed. Around 45 minutes from Greenwood Grange.
