Dreamy Dorset Day Out at Lulworth

24/03/2026

We think we have found the dream Dorset day out! Perfect for families, couples, walkers or solo travellers.

The day is based around the historic and beautiful Lulworth area. The Lulworth Estate owns three car parks across the area - Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Lulworth Castle. One ticket counts across the three car parks, so it’s a great way to see the area.

Lulworth is around 25 minutes in the car from Greenwood Grange. There are plenty of lovely places to eat in the local area and Lulworth Cove has a good selection of ice cream parlours!

Start your day at Lulworth Cove

Park up and walk down the quaint street past ice cream parlours and pasty shops.

The street takes you straight down to the shoreline and there are several sets of public toilets between the beach and the car park.

When the tide is high it doesn’t leave much beach. It can get busy down here, due to the naturally stunning and famous location so we would recommend getting down earlier rather than later.

We arrived at the beach at 10.30 on a warm sunny March day and it was fairly busy already. This area is also the perfect place to start your coastal walk, as the South West Coast Path is easily accessed and takes you to the world-renowned Durdle Door as well as smaller bays such as Worbarrow Bay and Man O War Beach.

Next, make your way over to Lulworth Castle

Pack up the car and head 10 minutes down the road to Lulworth Castle. The car parking system is all ANPR linked so you don’t need to pay until the end of your visit - super easy.

Car parking tickets include access to much of the castle grounds, including a fab play area set amongst the woodland. You can go into the castle and gardens for £9 per adult, which we will be going back to do in the future!

We started our visit here with a picnic on the tables in the old stable yard, followed by a walk through the grounds to the play park.

After lunch and a play we headed home - parking for both spots for 4 hours totalled £12.40. Not too bad for such an easy family day out!
