Responsible Visitors Charter

Please help us to help save the planet and keep Dorset beautiful…how can you make a difference?

  1. Conserve energy
Reduce energy by switching off lights when you don’t need them.  If the heating is on, close the windows and why not use the electric fire in your cottage rather than switching up the thermostat.
  2. Give the car a rest – Leave the car behind if only for a day.
Walk into Dorchester following the local footpaths, the map in the laundry can show you which way to go.
Cycle hire is available from Weymouth Bike hire Tel 07973 751393 / 07771 737756  Adult bikes start at £12.50 for a day and child bikes start at £8.00 per day.  Website www.weymouthbikehire.co.uk or email hire@weymouthbikehire.co.uk
Details of all public transport options in the area along with route planners can be found at www.traveline.org.uk.
  3. Shop local
Why not try the local produce from Dorset and Somerset?  Local delicacies such as Dorset blue vinney cheese, local meats and fish are all available at The Fridge in Tudor Arcade in Dorchester. Local farm shop deliveries are available by prior arrangement from The Rural Farm Shop company – www.theruralfarmshopcompany.com. Also look out for local farmers markets held in Poundbury.
  4. Reduce, Reuse, Re-cycle
Try to reduce packaging, take bags to the supermarket with you.
Please use the re-cycle facilities available on site for glass and cardboard.  Additional facilities are available at Tesco.
We can compost all raw vegetable peelings, tea bags, egg shells, coffee grounds and filters and paper towels.  Please don’t add meat, dairy or cooked food to the compost.   The green bin should be emptied into the collection container next to the laundry please.
  5. Be water wise
Please use water wisely.  Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and washing up.
If you don’t use the towels provided please leave them in the wardrobe, this will reduce the amount of laundry that takes place.
  6. Respect nature
Help us to look after the local landscape and wildlife by not littering, guarding against fire, and using footpaths and cycle-ways responsibly.
  7. Support Green Tourism Business
There are hundreds of businesses trying to reduce their environmental impacts through the Green Tourism Business scheme.  Businesses are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold awards for their efforts to be more environmentally responsible.
    See www.green-business.co.uk for more information.

Most importantly…….have a great time while you are here, we’d like you to come back!
